Belmont Abbey To Host Women's Sports Clinics

BELMONT, N.C. -- As part of the celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Belmont Abbey will host a sports clinic for girls on Saturday, Feb. 16, allowing participants to learn more about various sports and test their skills. Immediately following, the Crusader women's lacrosse and women's basketball teams will have game action on campus to conclude the event.

From 12 - 1 in the Wheeler Center, girls ages 5-15 will be able to meet with Crusader players from the sports of field hockey, soccer, acrobatics and tumbling, volleyball and track & field. All participants will be given a ticket to that evening's basketball game.

National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) began in 1987 as a special day in our nation's capital to recognize women's sports. The day united premiere organizations and elite female athletes to bring national attention to the promise of girls and women in sports. NGWSD has since evolved into an event to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, the positive influence of sports participation and the continuing struggle for equality for women in sports.

National Girls & Women in Sports Day is celebrated annually across all 50 states with community-based events, award ceremonies and other celebratory activities. NGWSD is organized by the members of the National Girls & Women in Sports Day Coalition. Champion women athletes have also contributed to annual NGWSD activities.
