Baseball Downed At Wingate, 6-2

The Belmont Abbey baseball team suffered a 6-2 defeat at Wingate this evening in the second meeting between the two schools this year. Wingate improves to 18-7 while the Crusaders-which lost to the Bulldogs 9-5 in Belmont on February 18-falls to 11-18.

Belmont Abbey scored both of its runs on sacrifice flyouts, starting in the top of the second.

In the second, the Abbey scored the first run of the game on Kennan Stanley's sacrifice fly to right, scoring Michael Falsetti.

Two innings later the Bulldogs tied the game on a sacrifice fly of their own, as Eric Serra raced home on Josh Clark's flyout.

The Bulldogs pulled away in the following inning as it scored four times, using a two RBI single from Michael Goodinez and run scoring singles from Clark and Serra to extend the lead to 5-1.

Belmont Abbey pulled one back in the sixth as Kayden Krause scored on Weston Clarke's sacrifice flyout to center.

Wingate closed the scoring in the seventh as Thomas Spitz scored on an Abbey error.

T.J. Rinoski earned the win for Wingate as he worked the first five and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs on six hits. Kyle Rogers, the second of six Abbey hurlers, took the loss. He allowed three runs on two hits in an inning and two-thirds.

The Crusaders totaled six hits as Falsetti led the way with two. Krause, Clarke, Anthony Dimino and Ian Vazquez each had one.
