Baseball Loses To Carson-Newman In Home Finale, 10-3

Belmont Abbey senior Quinn Hawksworth provided the only Crusaders runs of the game with a three run homer in the bottom of the ninth as the Abbey Baseball team closed the home schedule with a 10-3 loss to Carson-Newman this afternoon. The Eagles improve to 21-24, while the Abbey drops to 17-28.

Only five of the Eagles ten runs were earned as the Crusaders were charged with five errors defensively.

Carson-Newman struck for one in the first, two more in the second, three in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the ninth.

Belmont Abbey avoided the shutout in the ninth as three of the 12 seniors honored before the game contributed to all three runs.

Gabby Amor was hit by a pitch, followed by the first career hit by Brooks Leger, in just his fourth career at bat. Hawksworth then smashed a three run homer to left.

Five different Crusaders-all seniors-had one hit. Vince Apicella, the Eagles starting pitcher, was credited with the win after allowing three hits over seven scoreless innings, striking out seven. Forrest Buchanan suffered the loss after giving up three runs on five hits in two innings.
