Crusaders Drop Series Opener, 11-0
BELMONT, NC - The Belmont Abbey Crusaders lost their first Friday night home game of 2016, losing by a score of 11-0 to Barton at Abbey Yard.
The defeat was the first shutout in Conference Carolinas play, as the Abbey mustered just five hits on the night.
Barton would get on the board with a solo shot from Tyler Garrett in the first inning and the Bulldogs would never look back.
Dylan Ward was sterling on the mound for Barton, tossing seven shutout frames, allowing just four hits. The win for Ward was his seventh of the year.
Tyler Byrnes fell to 6-2 on the year, going 4.2 innings in the loss.
With the loss, the Abbey falls to 28-8-1 and 16-3 in conference play, while Barton moves to 26-12 overall, 11-8 in conference.
The Crusaders will look to even a  Conference Carolinas series on Saturday as Blake Waldren will start in game one of the doubleheader. The BASN will carry both games with airtime slated for 11:45am. Log onto: for the action.
