Crusaders Conclude Season Dropping 7-1 to Tusculum

COLUMBUS, GA - The Belmont Abbey Crusaders had their 2016 season come to a close late Saturday night, as Placido Torres hurled a complete game for the Pioneers, beating Belmont Abbey 7-1. The loss ends the Crusaders season at 39-16-1.

Matt Davenport got the start for the Abbey and was faced with early adversity in the second inning as the Pioneers loaded the bases. On the next at bat, a Geovanny Tolentino ground ball to the right side was fielded, but an errant throw allowed the initial run to score for Tusculum. Following a bunt single by JJ Wesley, Kevin Victoriano added a two run base hit to move the lead to 3-0.  Nick Lacina provided the effectual parting shot, delivering a two run knock of his own to up the lead to 5-0.

From there, Torres would handle the rest, striking out 12 in the complete game gem.

Nick Nunziato would put the Abbey on the board with an RBI double, plating Colin Rosenbaum, to cut the final outcome to 7-1.

Rosenbaum and Conor Kwalwasser each had multi-hit games for the Abbey in the losing effort.

Tusculum will now face the Mount Olive Trojans at 3:30pm in an elimination round matchup.
