Stanley and Genthe Lead Crusaders over Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey baseball team took game one of their final conference series over Erskine 7-1 Friday afternoon. Kennan Stanley led the charge with three hits and two runs scored, while Josh Genthe added two nocks and two runs, as the Crusaders tallied 10 hits on the day. The Abbey improves to 28-15 on the year and 17-8 in Conference Carolina. The Flying Fleet drop to 25-19 with a 13-12 conference record.

Cameron Busby tossed 8.0 innings to capture his fifth win of the season. Busby allowed just one run on seven hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. Michael Carpin took the loss, throwing 5.0 innings allowing six runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

The Crusaders took the lead in the second inning when Genthe scored on Kayden Krause's sacrifice fly. Thomas Yoder followed with an RBI double down the left-field line to give The Abbey a 2-0 advantage.

Erskine's Trevor Woods produced an RBI groundout to cut the lead in half, during the bottom half of the third inning.

Nick Beinlich launched his 18th home run of the season in the fifth inning to push the lead back to two. Belmont Abbey pushed across three runs in the sixth, to break the game open. Genthe scored on an Erskine error and Stanley scored on a bunt. The Abbey then executed a successful double steal, in which Krause scored as Beinlich swiped his 27th base of the year.

The Crusaders added an insurance run in the eighth, taking advantage of a couple Erskine miscues.

The Abbey will continue the series tomorrow at Erskine with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
