BELMONT, N.C. – The No. 14 Belmont Abbey Crusaders captured the first game of the weekend's Conference Carolinas series with Barton with a 19-3 victory Friday night. The 19 run mark has been touched by the Crusaders three times this season, as they captured their 32nd win of the year. Belmont Abbey (32-8) improves to 15-3 in Conference Carolinas play. Barton (11-31) is now 3-15 in the league.
The Abbey put up seven runs in the first inning on four hits, three walks, and a hit-by-pitch. The biggest blows coming from two-run doubles by both AJ Hendricks and Matt McGarry. Nick Beinlich homered in the second before Belmont Abbey tacked on four runs in the fourth to push a 12-1 lead. Colin Rosenbaum lifted a sac fly to score Beinlich and Thomas Yoder crushed his ninth home run of the year.
Barton scored in the second, sixth, and ninth.
Beinlich leads the Crusader offense with a 3-for-3 performance followed by two-hit games by McGarry and Yoder.
Cameron Busby earned his eighth win of the year tossing 7.0 innings allowing two runs on four hits and one walk. Busby struck out a career-high 12 batters in the contest.
Belmont Abbey looks to increase the win column tomorrow as they complete the series vs Barton with a doubleheader beginning at 1 P.M. at Abbey Yard.
