Crusaders Earn Shutout for Second Straight Win

BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- Belmont Abbey Field Hockey began a stretch of three games in three days Thursday night with a resounding 12-0 win over Lindenwood-Belleville. The win was the second in a row for the Crusaders, who posted a 15-1 victory over Sweet Briar on Saturday.

Belmont Abbey led 5-0 at the half, then added seven more goals in the second period.

Tyla Goodsell-Matthews scored five times in the contest, including single-handedly giving The Abbey a 3-0 lead. Demetria Barrow added a hat trick, her second in as many games with three goals. Haley Dietrich tallied two goals with Savanna Gabriele, Kelsey Garrison and Kristen Perret each finding the net once.

Anna Fleetwood posted the shutout in goal for Belmont Abbey, the first in program history. She was credited with two saves.

Belmont Abbey dominated in penalty corners, although official totals are not available at this time.

"It was a great team effort tonight after an early morning and day of flights to Missouri," Head Coach Bronwen Gainsford said.

The Crusaders continue their trip tomorrow with a 6 p.m. (ET) contest against future ECAC rival Lindenwood.
