CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Demetria Barrow scored her first goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 early in the first half, but two late goals lifted Queens to a 3-1 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Field Hockey League victory Saturday afternoon.

Setting the Scene

  • Belmont Abbey and Queens met for the fifth time on the field hockey turf, but the first as conference foes. The schools are part of the newly formed agreement beween the South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas.

How it Happened

  • Queens jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 54 seconds into the contest, but Barrow struck just 18 seconds later. The teams then went scoreless for over 56 minutes around halftime.
  • The Royals broke the tie with 12:06 to play and added some insurance with 4:40 to play for the 3-1 victory
  • Queens held a 20-3 advantage in shots, including 12-0 in the second stanza.
