HIGH POINT, N.C. – Belmont Abbey's DeQuan Abrom has repeated as the Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced today. The award is the third this season for the junior from Washington, D.C. and fifth overall for the Crusaders.
Abrom kept Belmont Abbey atop the Conference Carolinas standings after leading the squad to a pair of wins last week against North Greenville and Southern Wesleyan. He averaged 26 points on 64.7 percent shooting to go with 6.5 rebounds, two steals and one assist. The Abbey is off to its best start ever in conference play at 8-0.
In a 79-70 win over North Greenville, Abrom poured in 23 points on 55.6 percent shooting to go with four rebounds, two steals and one assist. He continued his hot shooting by scoring 29 points on 75 percent shooting (12-for-16) from the field, including 60 percent (3-for-5) from three-point range, against Southern Wesleyan. Abrom would add a career-high nine boards, two steals and one assist to his game totals in the 67-50 win over SWU.
Abrom currently averages 21.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. His points per game rank first in Conference Carolinas, while his assists rank ninth in the league.
