MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. -- Nick Stafford trimmed four strokes from his opening-round score to climb 17 spots at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional on Tuesday. The junior from Belmont shot a one-over 73 to move to a tie for 46th after 36 holes.
Starting on the 10th hole today, Stafford parred the first three holes before a bogey on 13. Four more pars with a birdie on the par 4, 16th put him at even for his front nine. The string of pars continued over the first six holes of his back nine, but he finished one-over on the final three holes for his 73. He bogeyed seven and nine, while birdieing eight.
With a two-day score of six-over 150, Stafford will need a low round on Wednesday to advance to the national tournament. He will tee off on No. 10 at 8:30 a.m. (CT).
