The Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team lost at Mount Olive by a 15-8 score this afternoon in a Conference Carolinas matchup. The Trojans are now 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the league, while the Abbey slips to 5-8 overall and 0-2 in Conference Carolinas.
The Crusaders trailed 6-4 at the half as the Trojans outscored the Abbey 4-2 in the first period. Both teams scored twice in the second as Connor Sellars and Will Chastain both netted goals, but Mount Olive scored the final goal of the half to carry a 6-4 lead into the break. Both of the Abbey's second period goals cut the Mount Olive lead to just one, but the Trojans answered each Crusader goal.
Mount Olive controlled the third quarter, as the Trojans outscored the Abbey 6-1 to move its lead to 12-5.
The Trojans outshot the Abbey 37-33 and won 20 of 25 face-offs. Sellars led all players with four goals on seven shots. He also had two ground balls. He was the only Crusader to score more than once. Ryan Callahan had the lone Abbey assist.
