Liam Osborne Records Five Goals in 16-5 Win vs. Mocs

BELMONT, N.C. - Liam Osborne scored five goals against Florida Southern, and the Crusaders earned a 16-5 win against Florida Southern.  The Abbey is now 4-0 on the year.  The Moccasins are 0-1.

Callum Tanner scored the first goal of the day, 3:35 into the contest, off a pass from Sean Hanrahan.  Osborne tallied his first goal of the day at the 10:30 mark.  He scored again off a pass from Adam Wiedemann to put The Abbey in front 4-0.  Then with eight seconds left in the quarter, Wiedemann scored a goal of his own, and the Crusaders held a 6-2 advantage heading into the second period.

It only took Osborne 10 seconds into the second to make it 7-2.  Later in the period, Jason Hollister set up Tanner for another goal to make it a 9-2 Crusader lead.  The Mocs scored a goal at the 3:37 mark, but Jack Diebolt responded with a score just nine seconds later.  Then after Belmont Abbey won the ensuing faceoff off a violation, Wiedemann only needed five seconds to make it an 11-3 lead.  The strong Crusader defense did not give up a Florida Southern shot for the rest of the quarter, and the Crusaders had a strong 11-3 lead at halftime.

Wiedemann only needed 30 seconds into the third to score a man-up goal and put The Abbey up 12-3.  Collin Grippo found the back of the net with two seconds remaining in the quarter.  Osborne got the scoring started in the fourth at the 10:04 mark.  Just 1:30 later, James Booth recorded a goal to cap off the scoring.  The defense limited Florida Southern's opportunities for the remainder of the contest, and the Crusaders finished with the 16-5 win.

On the day, Osborne led the offensive efforts with five goals and an assist.  Tanner and Wiedemann each scored three times.  Hanrahan dished out two assists.  Harley Whitham made 13 saves in goal.  Billy Huss won 11 faceoffs.

Belmont Abbey will play its first road game at Queens (NC) on Thursday, March 1.  That game will begin at 7 p.m.
