CENTRAL S.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team captured their first Conference Carolinas win of the season as they defeated Southern Wesleyan 3-0 Saturday. The win marks the team's fourth of the year as their stellar start continues.
As they have done all season, The Abbey started the game string wasting no time before marking the scoreboard. In the sixth minute Aaron Madison found the back of the net for the fourth time this season. The assist came from Mark Trompeter, his second of the season. The early strike gave the Crusaders the 1-0 advantage which would not stand for long. Just 30 seconds later Trompeter scored himself, his second of the year to put The Abbey up 2-0. Trompter was assisted by Harrison Clark, his first assist of the year.
Belmont Abbey held on to the 2-0 lead at the half and majority of the second period before Luke Wood added his first goal of the season in the 89th minute. Trompeter dished out his second assist of the contest for the insurance goal.
The Crusaders will next play Mars Hill Saturday, September 23 at Alumni Field at 4 p.m.
