Men's Tennis Rolls Past Johnson C. Smith, 9-0 In 2016 Spring Opener

The Belmont Abbey men's tennis team did not drop a set in all nine matches as the Crusaders cruised past the visiting Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls by a 9-0 score this afternoon at the Reidy Tennis Center in the 2016 Spring opener. Belmont Abbey moves to 2-0 on the year.

After winning all three doubles matches, two Crusaders posted 6-0, 6-0 singles wins as Nikhil Reddy blanked Sharif Axam at the top spot, while Derrick Kwok did the same at the fourth position.

Ero Okhiria and Isaiah Cole at the five and six positions, respectively, both dropped just one point as they won by scores of 6-0, 6-1. 

Mike Nguyen scored a 6-0, 6-3 victory at number three and Michael Rapsik earned an easy 6-0, 6-2 at the second spot.

Previously, in doubles, the Crusaders won all three doubles matches as Grant Goldin and Nguyen earned an 8-4 win at the top flight. Okhiria and Kwok scored an 8-0 shutout win at the two spot while Rapsik and Cole also earned an 8-0 victory at the third spot to give Belmont Abbey a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

The Crusaders are back on the court Saturday as they enter conference play on the road at Limestone. First serve is noon.
