Crusaders Move to 8-0 in Conference Play with 8-1 Win Over Warriors

The Belmont Abbey men's tennis team earned a 1-1 split today as it dropped a 7-0 match at Division I opponent Gardner Webb, then defeated Southern Wesleyan 8-1 on its home court.  The Abbey now stands at 17-10 on the season and 8-0 against conference opponents.  Southern Wesleyan moved to 5-10 overall and 2-5 in Conference Carolinas play.

In the Gardner Webb match, freshman Jacob Andress took his opponent into a tiebreaker.

Against the Warriors, the Crusaders took all six singles matches, highlighted by a 6-2, 6-0 win by freshman Zachary Blythe at the #5 spot.  Freshman George Barfoot was also solid, earning a 6-2, 6-2 win at #4.

In doubles play, Barfoot and James Delaney teamed for an 8-6 win, while Andress and Michal Rapsik claimed an 8-5 win at #3.

Belmont Abbey will next welcome Catawba on Thursday, April 6 at 2 p.m.  That will be the final home match for the Crusaders' regular season.
