CENTRAL, S.C. -- Belmont Abbey placed two athletes in tomorrow's 400m hurdles final and Matthew Difrancesco placed eighth in the long jump, highlighting the opening day of the 2017 Conference Carolinas Men's Track and Field Championship.
Difrancesco also earned a spot in the 200 meters final, placing second in his heat with a time of 22.10. He is seeded fifth for tomorrow's race. Earlier, he posted a mark 6.46 on his sixth and final attempt in the long jump. The sophomore earned his spot in the final with a jump of 6.37 meters on his second preliminary attempt.
Michael Koceja posted a preliminary time of 57.00 seconds in the 400 hurdles, standing sixth overall and third best in the opening heat. One spot behind was Tomas Cerdeiras, who placed fourth in the second heat with a time of 57.26. Cerediras also finished 10th in the javelin with a throw of 45.44 meters.
Action continues tomorrow with track finals and several field events.
