Belmont Abbey redshirt freshman Jon Lowenhagen led the Crusaders with eight kills and Spencer Fournell added seven but the Crusaders men's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at Erskine this afternoon at Belk Arena. Set scores were 26-24, 25-19 and 25-19. Erskine improves to 3-2 overall and 3-0 in league play, while the Abbey drops to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in Conference Carolinas.
Lowenhagen hit a match high .467 as he recorded eight kills on 15 total attacks with just one error. Fournell added seven markers with four total blocks (two solo and two assisted). Derek Sullivan handed out 18 assists.
At the net, the Abbey posted 13 total blocks as Fournell and Dustin Buell both had four. Buell totaled three assisted and one solo.
In the opening set the Abbey had set point at 24-23 but the Fleet won the final three points to stake a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Crusaders never led in the second set as it dwindled a 12-6 deficit down to 12-11 before Erskine pulled away late.
The final set saw the Crusaders take an 11-10 lead after traling by 5-2 early. After tying the set at 15, Erskine pulled away with a 9-6 run to close the match.
