Belmont Abbey junior Nolan Albrecht led all players with 13 kills and 11 digs as the Crusaders men's volleyball team earned its first win of the 2015 season with a 3-0 sweep of the visiting University of Charleston Golden Eagles this evening inside the Wheeler Center. Set scores were 25-21, 27-25 and 25-21. Belmont Abbey is now 1-1 on the year, while the Golden Eagles, a first year program, fall to 0-2.
Albrecht hit .417 as he smacked down 13 kills on 24 total attacks with just three errors. He added a service ace, a block solo and a block assist. He paced an offense that registered a .118 attack. Brennan Beyner added six kills while Anthony Pippen and Justin Snyder each had four.
Setter Derek Sullivan handed out 25 assist to go along with one service ace.
Defensively, Albrecht's 11 digs led all players while libero Jon Lowenhagen added ten.
Belmont Abbey goes on the road for its next three and returns home Wednesday, January 28 when hosting Erskine.
