The Belmont Abbey men's volleyball team won the opening set, but the visiting IPFW Mastodons won the final three sets to earn a 3-1 victory tonight inside the Wheeler Center. IPFW improves to 12-6 as the won by scores of 23-25, 25-22, 25-22 and 25-23. Belmont Abbey falls to 6-8.
Belmont Abbey jumped ahead 1-0 behind a scorching .591 attack, posting 14 kills on 22 attacks with just one error, but IPFW hit over .300 in sets two and three and then rallied back from a 19-15 deficit in the fourth set to win 25-23.
The Crusaders dominated the stat sheet, hitting .311 and holding the guests to a .248 clip, outdug the Mastodons 37-35 and recorded 12 block solos with two assisted. IPFW recorded just five block solos and four assisted blocks.
Albrecht and libero David Radoszewski tied for the match high with 11 digs each. Albrecht added six block solos with Sullivan and Pippen adding two each. Albrecht and Dustin Buell each had a block assist.
Belmont Abbey now goes on the road for its next three and will return home March 20 when welcoming North Greenville.
