Men's Volleyball Sweeps Away Emmanuel, 3-0 For School Record Sixth Conference Victory

Belmont Abbey junior outside hitter Nolan Albrecht led all players with 18 kills as the Crusaders men's volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory over the visiting Emmanuel Lions this evening inside the Wheeler Center. Set scores were 25-23, 25-21 and 25-19. Belmont Abbey earns its school record sixth conference victory as overall and league records are at the break even at 10-10 overall and 6-6 in Conference Carolinas. Emmanuel falls to 4-15 overall and 2-12 in the league.

The Crusaders sixth victory is one better than the 2013 unit, the inaugural season of the program. Belmont Abbey is also one victory away from tying the record for most wins in a season, which also came in 2013.

Tonight, Belmont Abbey used a late first set rally to overtake the Lions as the momentum continued through the next two sets for a 3-0 sweep.

Albrecht led an offense that hit .186 with 18 kills on 35 attacks with four errors (.400) while adding three service aces. Dustin Buell added six kills and Gavin Schaeffer, in his first career start, added four. Derek Sullivan handed out 26 assists with Jon Lowenhagen adding five. Buell and Brandon Kimbrell added one each.

The Crusaders totaled eight service aces as Albrecht's three led all players. Buell and Justin Snyder added two each, with Kimbrell notching another.

The defense held Emmanuel to a .114 attack as Sullivan's nine digs tied for the match high. Albrecht and Lowenhagen added five each. At the net Buell's three block solos led all players, with Snyder, Kimbrell and Sullivan all adding one each.

Belmont Abbey now goes on the road for its last two road matches of the season, starting with a Friday night matchup at Barton and a Saturday afternoon tilt at Mount Olive.
