Belmont Abbey senior Nolan Albrecht hit .545 as he led all players with 19 kills in a 3-0 road men's volleyball victory at Emmanuel 3-0 this evening in the Conference Carolinas opener. Set scores were 25-18, 25-22 and 25-21. The Crusaders remain unbeaten at 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the league, while the Lions drop to 2-2 overall and in the league.
Albrecht led an offense that .376 as he posted 19 kills on 33 attacks with just one error. Brennan Beyner added nine kills and Derek Sullivan posted five. Justin Snyder, Dustin Buell and Gavin Schaeffer all added three. Sullivan handed out all 33 of the Crusaders assists. Belmont Abbey finished with 42 kills with ten errors on 85 total attacks, while posting two points on the service line, with aces from Snyder and Schaeffer.
The defense outdug the Lions 35-27 and recorded eight total blocks as Robert Valentine's 13 digs tied for the match high. Beyner added six.
At the net, Beyner and Schaffer each had one block solo. Schaffer and Snyder posted two block assists with Buell adding another.
The Crusaders are off for eight days as they return to the court twice next Friday in the home opener, hosting St. Andrews at 2:00 before taking on King at 7:00 p.m.
