The Men's Volleyball endured its first 3-set sweep of the 2016 season tonight, falling to Barton 25-20, 25-19, and 25-19 respectively. With the loss the Crusaders fell to 6-2 on the season and 3-2 in conference play while Barton improved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in league play.
In the first, a couple of early kills from Vasilis Mandilaris gave the Bulldogs an early lead, a lead that eventually grew to 17-11. The Abbey responded by scoring five of the next seven points to trim the lead to three. The set remained close as the Bulldogs hung on to win the set.
Set two was another close one, with both teams trading points early and often. The Crusaders never led in this set, which Barton took 25-19.
In set three the Abbey came out strong, taking three of the set's first four points. The set continued to see-saw between the two teams, and the Abbey did not allow Barton to build a comfortable lead until the very end, when it took a six-point lead.
On the night, senior Nolan Albrecht led the Crusaders with nine kills. Senior Derek Sullivan led the way with 22 assists. The defense finished the match 22 digs, led by sophomore Gavin Schaffer's five. David Radoszewski chipped in four.
The Abbey will next take the court next Friday when it visits Mt. Olive.
