Crusaders Hit For Season High, Cruise Past Pfeiffer

BELMONT, N.C. -- Austin Quinn had a season-high nine kills and Belmont Abbey hit a season-best .324, leading the Crusaders to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-20) victory over Pfeiffer in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action Tuesday night.

Six players registered kills for Belmont Abbey (3-5, 2-3) with Brennan Beyner and Aaron Dierkes following Quinn with six each. Pierce Pliapol had 25 assists, while eight different Crusaders had at least one dig, led by Robert Valentine with seven.

The Abbey also had seven blocks, leading to a negative hitting percentage (-.089) for the first time this season.

Pfeiffer (0-4, 0-4) had its only leads of the match early in the first, scoring the first point before opening a 2-1 lead. The Crusaders tallied four straight points to start a 9-1 run that led to an 11-3 run. After back-to-back Falcon points, Belmont Abbey scored two in a row, and later led 20-10. The Crusaders ended the set 25-14 with kills by Dierkes and Nixon.

The second set also opened with an early run by the hosts. The Crusaders broke a 2-2 tie with three straight points that also extended to an 11-3 advantage. With the score 21-11, BAC ran off four in a row to take a commanding 2-0 lead.

After falling behind 4-0 and 6-2 in the third, Pfeiffer stayed close. It rallied to within 10-7 and later closed to 18-16 and 19-17. But from there, the Crusaders surged. They won four straight points, including three on Dierkes' serve, for a 23-17 lead, then traded points for the 25-20 finale.

Belmont Abbey returns to action with a trip to Conference Carolinas rival Limestone.
