Balanced Attack Leads Crusaders to 3-0 Win over Limestone

BELMONT, N.C. -- William Morris, Jake Somers and Liam Maxwell each tallied eight kills and Brian Long added seven, leading Belmont Abbey to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-20) Conference Carolinas victory over Limestone in men's volleyball action Tuesday night. The Crusaders hit .342 as a team, the fourth-highest for a match this season.

With the win, The Abbey improves to 11-9, 6-5 and takes over fifth place in the league standings, while the Saints drop to sixth at 10-10, 6-7.


  • Belmont Abbey finished the contest with 36 kills and 11 errors in 73 attempts, while Limestone hit .192 (23-13-52).
  • The Crusaders topped .300 in each of the three sets.
  • Brennan Davis had 31 assists and two digs. Daniel Cerqua led the defensive effort with three digs.
  • Belmont Abbey tied the school record with 13 aces, but also had 20 errors.
  • In the opening set, the Crusaders broke an 18-18 tie with six straight points for a 24-18 lead. After Limestone saved a set point, a service error put the Crusaders up 1-0.
  • Three straight points at 5-5 started a 7-2 run that gave The Abbey control of the second set. The Crusaders led by as many as eight points en route to a 25-17 win.
  • The third set saw a 15-15 tie broken by five straight Belmont Abbey points. After back-to-back tallies by the Saints, the Crusaders scored three in a row to retake the momentum.


  • Belmont Abbey begins a crucial road trip on Thursday. It faces three games in three days -- at Barton, at Mount Olive and at North Greenville -- all of whom sit ahead of the Crusaders in the standings.
