Crusaders Open Conference Tournament With a 6-5 Win Over Mount Olive

BURLINGTON, NC - The Belmont Abbey Crusaders wrapped 10 hits, scoring four times in the seventh, as Laura Williams tossed a complete game to propel Belmont Abbey forward with a 6-5 win in the 2016 Conference Carolinas Championships.


The Abbey(18-27) used bookend innings to plate all six runs in the victory. The Crusaders used RBI singles from Anna Mixa and Lauren Clifford to give Williams an early 2-0 advantage.


Williams would surrender a single run in the first, before settling into the next five innings. Through six frames, Williams scattered three hits and the lone run to give the Abbey a seventh inning lead.


In the seventh, the Abbey would stretch their advantage with a four run inning, highlighted by four unearned runs, coming off of three Trojans miscues.


In the seventh, the Trojans(30-19) would rally back, tacking on four runs in their final at bat to trim the lead to one run.


In the end, Williams earned her seventh win of the year, getting a line out from Anna Ingram to end the contest.


In the ten hit attack for the Abbey, eight different players collected safeties, led by Katherine Starnes and Brooke Pegram with a pair of hits on the day.


Lauren Clifford added a pair of RBI in support of Williams, who draws her record inside the circle to 7-7 with the conquest.
