Women's Basketball Caps Regular Season With Easy 76-51 Victory Over Pfeiffer

The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team closed the regular season with a 76-51 victory over the visiting Pfeiffer University Falcons this evening inside the Wheeler Center. Belmont Abbey finishes the regular season winners of 11 of its last 12 as the record improves to 19-9 and 15-7 in Conference Carolinas, while Pfeiffer is 6-20 overall and 5-17 in Conference Carolinas.

Belmont Abbey completes the conference season tied for second with King and Erskine, and will be seeded third in the upcoming Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Crusaders will host the six seeded North Greenville Crusaders Saturday night at 7:00 inside the Wheeler Center. Pfeiffer earned the eighth seed with Lees-McRae's loss to King, and the Falcons will travel to top seed and nationally-third ranked Limestone Saturday.

Tonight, Belmont Abbey turned a 5-4 deficit into a 21-11 run as the 17-6 spurt gave the Crusaders a lead they would never relinquish.

The first half edge rose to 34-13 and would be 46-22 at the break as the Crusaders shot 56 percent from the field and held Pfeiffer to 21 percent.

Belmont Abbey scored eight of the first ten points of the second half to give the Crusaders its highest lead of the game, 28 points, at 54-26 with 16:33 to play.

From there, the Crusaders lead never dipped below 24 points as every available player saw action with all but three scoring.

McKenzie Owen and Gabrielle Bethel both led the Crusaders with 14 points while Morgan Midkiff added 11. Jayneisha Davis netted a career-high eight with two assists and two steals. Briana Grier handed out six assists.

Belmont Abbey shot 54 percent from the field and 50 percent from the free throw line while also converting all six free throw attempts, all of which were taken by Owen.
