Schulz Ties Career Scoring Mark in 90-57 Win at SWU

CENTRAL, S.C. – Alexis Schulz scored 14 points, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range, to tie her career-high, and the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team earned a 90-57 win at Southern Wesleyan University this afternoon.  The victory puts The Abbey at 11-5 this season, including an 8-1 Conference Carolinas record.  The Warriors dipped to 6-9 on the year, and 1-6 against conference opponents.

How it Happened

  • Belmont Abbey jumped to a 10-2 lead early, and never looked back from there.  Keyanna Spivey scored six points in the period, and the Crusaders held a 28-12 lead when the quarter ended
  • It only took Schulz nine seconds in to the second quarter to nail a 3-point shot.  She hit another at the 8:30 mark to increase the Crusaders' lead to 34-15.  On the defensive side, The Abbey only gave up one SWU field goal over the first four minutes of the quarter.  Belmont Abbey led 44-28 at halftime
  • With 3:11 left in the third, a layup by Brittany Autry gave BAC its first 20-point lead of the day at 59-39.  Schulz closed out the quarter with a three, and Belmont Abbey owned a 66-45 lead heading into the final period
  • Keyla Hines scored 10 points in the fourth, helping The Abbey close out the 90-57 victory
  • On the day, Schulz was the leader for the Crusaders, with 14 points, seven rebounds, and three steals
  • Allie Downing scored 17 points, handed out a game-high six assists, and had three steals
  • Manuela Fungate recorded a double-double, with 12 points and 12 boards
