Autry Scores Career-High 17 Against Tornado

BELMONT, N.C. - Brittany Autry scored a career-high 17 points this evening in Belmont Abbey's 79-70 loss to King University.  The setback puts The Abbey at 12-6 on the season, with a 9-2 conference record.  The Tornado are now 9-7 overall, and 5-4 in Conference Carolinas play.

How it Happened

  • Maria Kuhlman got the Crusaders off to a fast start with a 3-point basket and an assist to Hannah Roney for an early 6-0 lead.  She would also make the last basket of the period for the Crusaders, who trailed 23-21 when the quarter expired.  The Abbey shot 4-for-4 from 3-point range in the quarter
  • Keyanna Spivey hit a free throw that brought Belmont Abbey to within a point at 26-25 with 6:16 to play in the second.  A King run put the Tornado up nine, but a 3-pointer by Kuhlman to cap off the period got the Crusaders back within striking distance, as they trailed 42-38 at halftime
  • Late in the third, Belmont Abbey went on a huge run, outscoring King 13-3 over the last 2:47 of the quarter.  Autry scored six points during the stretch, and the Tornado led 61-53 heading into the final period
  • Autry continued the surge into the fourth, scoring seven points in the first 3:26 of the quarter.  Alexis Schulz made a 3-point shot at the 5:53 mark to give the Abbey a 63-61 lead, capping a 10-0 Abbey run to start the period
  • The Crusaders, however, were unable to finish off the game, which ended with a 79-70 King win
  • On the night, Autry scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead The Abbey
  • Maria Kuhlman added 19 points.  Allie Downing scored eight and pulled down 10 rebounds.  Roney scored six points, earned three steals, and handed out five assists, which tied for the game-high
