Glunt, Delgado Lead Crusaders in Campbellsville Duals

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY. – The Belmont Abbey wrestling team recorded two victories at the Campbellsville Duals Saturday. The Crusaders faced off against host Campbellsville, Truett-McConnell, Bellarmine, and Brewton Parker. The other schools who participated in the event were the University of the Cumberlands, Indiana Tech., and Newberry.

Belmont Abbey defeated Bellarmine by the score of 42-6 and Truett-McConnell 36-6 but lost to Campbellsville 27-14 and Brewton Parker 24-20. The Crusaders move to 3-3 on the season. On the day Jake Glunt and Chaas Delgado each recorded four victories while Michael Bedard, Greg Hilliard, and Ben Knaus all came away with three wins.  


Belmont Abbey 42, Bellarmine 6

The Crusaders dominated the mat against Bellarmine winning nine matches. Bedard (125) and Nick Lukanich (133) started it off with forfeit wins followed by Josh Gahagan's 7-5 decision in the 141 weight class and Jonathan Charpenter's 12-8 decision win in 149. Greg Hilliard kept the ball rolling with a 4-2 decision against the 157 class. Jake Glunt's major decision 10-2 (165) , Ben Knaus' technical fall 18-0 (174), Luke Glunt's pin 2:40 (184), and Delgado's Pin 2:14 (HWT) sealed the win for the Crusaders.


Belmont Abbey 36, Truett-McConnell 6

The Abbey captured eight matches against Truett-McConnell, four wins came by major decisions and the other four by forfeit. Bedard notched his major decision of the season 8-6 int the 125 weight class followed by Jake Glunts' second MD 13-5 (165). Knaus (174) recorded his first MD of the season 15-0 as did Brian Girard with his 9-5 win in the 184 weight class.


Campbellsville 27, Belmont Abbey 14

Hilliard threw down his fifth pin of the season in 1:07 in the 157 weight class to get the Crusaders on the board. Jake Glunt worked his way to his third technical fall winning 16-1 in the 165 class. Delgado completed a 7-3 decision win in the HWT class.


Brewton Parker 24, Belmont Abbey 20

Bedard wrestled a tight match pulling out the 15-14 decision win in the 125 weight class. Jake Glunt recorded a technical fall 16-0 win in the 165 class and Knaus got the 12-9 decision win in the 174 weight class. Delgado took the 3-2 decision in the Heavyweight class.


The Crusaders' next match will be Wednesday in the Wheeler Center against conference opponent King. The bout will begin at 4:00 p.m.
