BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey wrestling team put two tallies in the win column Saturday beating Middle Tennessee 38-18 and East Carolina 44-0. The two wins improve the Crusades record to 7-5 this season. In the two matches the Abbey recorded seven pins and two technical falls.
The first match of the day saw Middle Tennessee defeat East Carolina 49-12. The Blue Raiders took advantage of a fall by Michael King as well as decisions by Nicholas King and Richie McClendon. Timothy Hudson recorded a pin for the Pirates.
In the Abbey's first match the Crusaders battled Middle Tennessee. Michael Bedard earned his sixth win of the year with a 12-7 decision over Elisha Potter in the 125 weight class. Troy Gregor followed with his first win of the season, a technical fall. Johnathan Charpenter, Johnathan Gahagan, and Grahm Allen all recorded their first pins of the season. Chaas Delgado wrapped up the match for the Crusades with a pin in 14 seconds.
The second match for the Abbey, against East Carolina saw the Crusaders continue their dominance. Charpenter edged out a 10-9 victory over a very competitive Wesley Hollingsworth of ECU. Gahagan earned his second win of the day with a technical fall. Tyler MacLaine worked his way to his second pin of the season and Delgado secured the victory with another pin in 41 seconds
The Crusaders travel to Kutztown to participate in the Kutztown Duals. They will wrestle East Stroudsburg, Shippensburg, LIU-Post and Kutztown January 20 and 21.
