Crusaders Host Midwest Super Regionals

BELMONT, N.C. – Belmont Abbey hosted the Midwest Super Regionals inside the Wheeler Center bright and early Friday morning. Participating in the duals was No. 4 Findlay, No. 9 Tiffin, No. 24 Limestone, No. 19 UNC Pembroke, and Belmont Abbey. The Wheeler center had two mats setup and two duals going on simultaneously.

The Crusaders faced No. 9 Tiffin in their first dual of the morning and were edged out 27-21. Michael Bedard, the eighth ranked wrestler at 125, defeated Landon Elliott with an 18-3 technical fall. The number seventh ranked Greg Hilliard pinned fourth ranked Sam Viengmany in the 157 weight class. John Glunt, ranked sixth in the 165 weight class earned a 9-0 major decision in the 165 bout. Eight ranked Chaas Delgado earned his fifth pin of the season in the 285 weight class to round off the match.

The Abbey battled against No. 4 Findlay, but the Oilers took the 35-3 victory. John Glunt defeated the number two ranked wrestler in the 165 weight class in a 7-5 decision.

The Crusaders wrapped up the day against No. 19 UNC Pembroke. The Braves edged out the Crusaders by the score of 33-16. Bedard earned an 8-3 decision in the 125 weight class as Greg Hilliard recorded the major decision over fifth ranked Eric Milks in the 157 weight class. John Glunt received his 14th win of the season and Chaas Delgado registered his 13th win in the 285 weight class.

The Limestone Saints defeated Tiffin by the score of 22-18. Limestone captured six bouts including three wins from regionally ranked wrestlers. The wins included a decision from the sixth ranked wrestler in the 157 weight class, DeAndre Johnson, a major decision from the fifth ranked wrestler in the 174 class, Jimmy Sandlin, and a decision from Matthew Rudy, the number one ranked wrestler at 197. Tiffin also recorded three wins from regionally ranked wrestlers in Trey Gine (3rd in 141), Mike Screptock (4th in 149), and Garrett Gray (1st in 285).

 Findlay defeated UNC Pembroke in their first dual of the day 28-12. Findlay earned six bout victories with wins from Devin Rogers (6th in 133), Josh Wimer (3rd in 141), Nick Goebel (1st in 149), Alonzo Turner (2nd in 165), and Luke Fleming (4th in 285). Pembroke benefitted from wins from Mikey Thomas (3rd in 184), Blaze Shade (2nd in 174), and Eric Milks (5th in 157).

Findlay defeated Limestone 27-7 securing seven bout victories including Phillips, Rogers, Wimer, and White. Limestone claimed two victories with Clif-Steven Decius and Rudy.

Tiffin defeated UNC Pembroke 22-13 recording six bout wins.

The Crusaders' next match will be Wednesday, February 1, as they host Newberry at 7:00 p.m.
