Crusader Wrestling Competes in Final Home Match

BELMONT, N.C. – The Crusader wrestling team wrapped up their home schedule in front of a lively crowd inside the Wheeler Center Saturday evening. The Abbey was just beat out by Division I Davidson by the score of 20-19. The Crusaders captured five bouts in the match and are now 8-13 on the season.

Davidson captured the first two bouts with a major decision in the 125 weight class and a decision in the 133 class. Troy Gregor opened up the scoring for the Crusaders in the 141 weight class with his fourth win of the season earning a 3-2 decision. Santonio Thompson followed up his third win and second major decision with an 18-10 win in the 149 weight class.

Greg Hilliard, ranked 10th in the country at 157, earned his 19th win of the season and his 13th pin to give the Abbey their first lead of the night. Nationally ranked teammate Jake Glunt (12th) recorded a 10-5 decision, his 16th of the year as the Crusaders took a 13-7 lead in the dual match.

The Wildcats managed to win the next three matchups before Chaas Delgado earned his 15th win of the year with a 14-3 major decision in a spirited bout in the 285 weight class. The Crusaders were tied with Davidson but an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was assessed at the end of the last match to give the Wildcats the dual victory.

The Crusaders will travel to Greensboro, N.C. Tuesday, Feb. 7 to face off against the Pride 7:00 p.m.
