Women's Soccer Records Scoreless Draw At Newberry

The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team posted its second draw in as many matches, as the Crusaders battled Newberry to a scoreless stalemate this afternoon at the Smith Road Complex in Newberry. Belmont Abbey is now 1-0-2, while the Wolves are 1-0-1. Both of the team's wins came against Alabama-Huntsville.

While the match was in progress, the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America's national and regional polls were released. The Crusaders are receiving votes in the national poll and are in the fourth position in the Southeast Region.

Today's match saw the Wolves outshoot the Abbey 10-5 and hold a 7-2 corner kick advantage.

In the first overtime period, Belmont Abbey had both of the scoring chances as Simone Melvin and Cassidy Coutinho both had shots on frame, but were saved.

In the final ten minute period, Newberry had the only recorded shot, but it was blocked from distance by a Crusaders defender.

Senior goalkeeper Hannah Kohls made two saves, one in each half and did not face a shot in either overtime period.

Belmont Abbey is back in action Friday at 3:00 when it hosts regional power Armstrong State from Alumni Field.
