The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team ended its away schedule with a 2-0 loss at Converse this evening in Spartanburg. The Valkyries scored two goals late in the second half despite the Abbey outshooting Converse 21-10. Converse improves to 12-2-1 overall and 7-1-1 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey slips to 8-6-2 overall and 7-3-0 in Conference Carolinas.
The first half was scoreless as the Crusaders dominated the statistics, attempting 11 shots to just five for Converse and winning two of the three corner kicks.
Belmont Abbey attempted seven of its 11 first half shots in the first 16 minutes and its best chance came in the 18th minute as Cierra Skyers's shot was swatted away from the line by defender Bethany Spivey.
Converse finally broke through in the 77th minute on Alexandra Marquez's breakaway goal. 12 minutes later the Valkyries added an insurance tally as Georgia Jones scored in the 87th minute. The Valkyries two goals came on their last two shots of the game.
