The Belmont Abbey women's tennis team suffered a 7-2 loss this afternoon to Converse at the Reidy Tennis Center. Belmont Abbey's victories came at the top two singles spots as Lydia Schellenberg and Katharine Miller both were victorious. Converse improves to 3-13 overall and 2-4 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey drops to 1-13 overall and 0-5 in Conference Carolinas.
After dropping all three doubles matches-with the Crusaders losing the third in a tiebreaker-Miller gave the Abbey its first point with an easy 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kelsey Rembert in the first completed singles match.
Converse won the next two matches to stretch its lead to 5-1 and seal the victory. Schellenberg posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Marisa Esformes at number one, but the Valkyries won the last two matches, numbers five and six to produce the sixth and seventh points.
Belmont Abbey is back in action Sunday at 1:00 when the men and women play host to Mount Olive.
