Schmitz Wins 3000 Meters By 28 Seconds At Susan Rouse Invitational

Belmont Abbey junior Lucy Schmitz won the 3000 meter run by a dominating 28 seconds today as the Crusaders women's track and field team competed at the Susan Rouse Invitational on the campus of Southern WesleyanUniversity this afternoon.

Schmitz, the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, opened the outdoor season with a bang as she finsihed with a time of 10:43.90, a whopping 28 seconds ahead of the second place finisher, Eleana Oslund of Brenau, who came across the line in11:11.35.

Teresa Suarez was fourth at 12:21.23

Along with Schmitz, Bri Crisci finished fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.80. Liz Theirfelder finished fourth in the 400 with a time of 59.51.

Saralee Martelly finsihed fifth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.05 while adding a seventh place effort in the high jump. She capped off the day by finishing third in the triple jump.

Briana Mosby raced to eighth in the 800 meter run, clocking a time of 2:34.98. Kaitlin Howard was 12th at 2:42.55

In field events, Lauren Morrow's discus throw of 25.15 meters was seventh as was her shot put toss of 7.70 meters.
