Belmont Abbey junior Lucy Schmitz won her second Conference Carolinas title in as many days, winning the 5000 meter run to lead the Crusaders women's track and field team to an eighth place finish at the two day Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships held on the campus of Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina.
Belmont Abbey finished with 43 points as the Crusaders began the day with 17 after day one on Friday.
Schmitz and Saralee Martelly were responsible for all 17 of Friday's points, as Schmitz won the league title in the 10,000 meter run with Martelly adding points in the high jump and triple jump.
Schmitz added another league title to her haul, winning the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:06.
Today, the Abbey scored 26 points as Martelly added to her total with a fifth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.58. Liz Thierfelder added five points with a sixth place effort in the 400 meters, clocking a time of 58.6 in the 400 a seventh place mark in the 200.
Senior Briana Mosby finished sixth in the 800 meters with a mark of 2:29 for three points and the 4x400 relay team of Bri Crisci, Thierfelder, Martelly and Mosby finished fifth.
