Crusaders Perform Well at Phoenix Invitational

The Belmont Abbey Women's Outdoor Track team finished in eighth place overall this weekend at the Phoenix Invitational in Elon, NC.

Senior Brien Crisci led the Abbey sprinters as she earned a top-10 spot in the 200M, as she dashed to a 25.63 finish.  Liz Thierfelder was just two spots behind with a 25.75-second run.  Amanda Harrison ran the event in 32.54 seconds. Crisci also ran the 100M in 12.6 seconds

Thierfelder earned a top-5 finish in the 400 Meter run with a 57.55-second run.  Amanda Steiner ran the race in 1:06.66.

Shanon Corbett completed the 800 Meter run in 2:58.2.

Senior Lucy Schmitz led the Distance running for the Abbey, as she finished the 5000 Meter race in 18.39.29, good enough for fourth place overall.  Also in the distance events, Julia Otranto (5:20.11) finished right in front of teammate Amber Arias (5:23.36) in the 1500 Meter race.

In the field events, Desenia Sanchez earned a top-5 spot in the discus with a 29.69M throw.  Teammate Lauren Morrow was next with a 24.17M throw.  Sanchez also had a top-10 finish in the shot put with a 10.22M throw, while Morrow threw for 8.16 meters.

Genevieve Hickin was another active field eventer, as she had a top-10 finish in the pole vault with a performance of 2.3 meters.  She also threw a javelin 23.91 meters.  Linda Randazzo's javelin went 21.01 meters.

The Crusaders will next compete this weekend at the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Banner Elk, NC.

 

The Men's Outdoor Track team finished fourth out of 13 collegiate teams, and first among four Conference Carolinas teams this weekend at the Phoenix Invitational in Elon, NC.

Freshman Alex Abalos led the way for the Crusaders in the 400 Meter race, as he clocked a time of 50.6 seconds, good enough for fourth overall in the race. Joe Thierfelder's 51.13 time was good enough for seventh place. Mac Makela also competed in this event with a 55.29 time.

Also performing very well was Michael Koceja, whose 57.2-second 400 Hurdle earned him a top 3 finish.

Thierfelder finished the 100 Meter race in 11.58, while teammate Darius Gardner was right behind at 11.78. Stephane Rivard also ran in this event, finishing with a time of 11.97. Rivard also ran the 200 in 25.08.

The 4x400 Meter Relay team finished with a time of 3:24.07.

In the distance events, David Iverson was second in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, which he finished in 11:54.25.

Patrick Lester was the top Crusader runner in the 800, where he ran a 2:00.28 race. Up next among Abbey runners was Connor Buhrmeister at 2:00.75. EJ Cerdeiras finished at 2:06.11.

In the 1500 Meter race, Thomas Eichorn clocked a 4:25.76 time, while Zach Melvin ran the event in 4:32.94.





The field events also went well for Belmont Abbey, as Melvin's 45.96M javelin throw was second overall. Thierfelder threw a javelin 42.98M, good enough for fourth overall. He also competed in the High Jumps, finishing third overall with a 1.85M jump. In the Long Jump, Darius Gardner's 5.9M were good enough for a fourth place finish.
