CENTRAL, S.C. -- Julia Otranto qualified for two finals and four other Crusaders also earned spots in their respective events, highlighting Belmont Abbey's opening day at the 2017 Conference Carolinas Women's Track and Field Championships.
Otranto placed 11th in the 1500-meter preliminary with a time of 5.13.74, then ran a 1:10.21 race in the 400-meter hurdles to stand sixth. Annie Hetzel and Emily Shuler will also compete in the 1500-meter final after fourth and 12th-place finishes, respectively, in the prelims. Hetzel finished in 5:06.63, while Shuler crossed in 5:28.78.
Senior Liz Thierfelder won her heat in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:22.25 to qualify for the final, while Savannah Lamb posted the sixth-best time in the 100-meter hurdles heats, running 16.54 to advance. to tomorrow.
