Otranto Qualifies for Pair of Finals

CENTRAL, S.C. -- Senior Julia Otranto qualified for the tomorrow's finals in both of her events Friday, highlighting Belmont Abbey's first day at the 2019 Conference Carolinas Women's Track and Field Championship, hosted by Southern Wesleyan.


  • Otranto won her heat in the 800 meters, posting a time of 2:28.11. Her time ranked fourth-best of the preliminary sections. Earlier, in the 1500, Otranto also advanced automatically by finishing third in her heat. She posted a time of 5:13.99, ranking fifth entering tomorrow's final.
  • Annie Hetzel also qualified for the 1,500 final by turning in the ninth-fastest time of the preliminaries. She ran 5:15.27.
  • Savannah Lamb will race in tomorrow's 400 Hurdles final after posting the eighth-best time during Friday's action. Her time was 1:13.59. She finished just ahead of Jillian Culbertson (1:21.46).
  • Freshman Cameron Davis picked up the Crusaders' only team points on the day with a seventh-place finish in the high jump. She cleared 1.45 meters (4'-9").
  • Freshman Keely Weber placed ninth in the 800, posting a personal-best time of 2:29.96.


  •  Belmont Abbey wraps up its 2019 season tomorrow with the final events of the Conference Carolinas Women's Track & Field Championship.
