Belmont Abbey senior outside hitter Lydia Schellenberg led all players with ten kills and the Crusaders held Lees-McRae to a negative hitting percentage as the women's volleyball team earaned an easy 3-0 sweep this afternoon at Williams Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-11, 25-16 and 25-16. Belmont Abbey improves to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas, while Lees-McRae drops to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in league play.
The Crusaders had no trouble with the Bobcats from the outset, as Belmont Abbey hit .318 in the opening set and held the Bobcats to a .050 attack. Lees-McRae posted just four kills in the opening set, while the Abbey registered ten.
The second set saw the Abbey force nine Lees-McRae errors on 28 attacks with just six kills, while the Abbey recorded nine. In the final set, the Crusaders hit .278 and held the Bobcats to a .029 clip.
Lydia Schellenberg led the Abbey with ten kills, the only player to reach double figures. Hannah Schellenberg added seven and Claire Lang posted six on ten attacks with one miscue. Caitlin Hankins hit .417, posting five kills on 12 attacks with no errors. Abby Stine handed out 18 assists and Gabby Martinez finished with eight.
Defensively, Ana Maria Pagan recorded a match-high ten digs while Stine finished with nine. Hankins and Lydia Schellenberg both had a pair of block assists.
