The Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team forced a fourth set after dropping the first two sets, but Barton claimed a 25-23 win in the fourth to cap a 3-1 victory this evening in Wilson Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-19, 25-23, 13-25 and 25-23 to move into sole possession of first place in the Conference Carolinas North Division. Their record moves to 11-8 overall and 6-3 in league play, while the Abbey drips to 11-8 overall and 5-3 in Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey hit .174 as Hannah Schellenberg led all players with 20 kills as she hit .304 for the match. Caitlin Hankins hit .346 as she registered 14 kills. Gabby Martinez handed out 43 assists. Sarah Kenney added five.
Defensively, Schellenberg's 18 digs led all players. Kenney added 17 and Leah Gunter contributed 14. Gunter also had three service aces. Martinez, Schellenberg and Coreen Norwood all had two. Belmont Abbey finished with 75 digs with Barton logging 64.
The Crusaders are back in action tomorrow at 2:00 when it travels to Mount Olive.
