Crusaders Post Thrilling 3-2 Win at Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. -- Four players reached double figures in kills and Belmont Abbey rallied from a 9-6 deficit in the fifth set, lifting the Crusaders to a thrilling 3-2 (26-28, 27-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-12) Conference Carolinas women's volleyball victory over Emmanuel Friday night. With their third straight victory, The Abbey improves to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in league play, while South Division favorites fall to 9-7, 4-1.


  • Mackenzie Chrapliwy and Cassidy Bonito posted double-doubles. Chrapliwy tallied team-highs of 14 kills and 15 digs, while Bonito added 10 kills and 40 assists. Brianna Morgheim and Andie Meredith reached 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
  • Sarah Kenney reached double figures in 12 digs.
  • Belmont Abbey opened the first set with a 20-15 lead before the Lions tied the score at 20. Emmanuel saved three set points and the Crusaders one before EC scored back-to-back points to win the set 28-26.
  • In the second set, The Abbey led 24-20 before Emmanuel rallied. Kills by Bonito and Chrapliwy broke a 25-25 tie and evened the match.
  • The Crusaders took the third set 25-20, but Emmanuel forced a fifth set with a 25-16 win in the fourth.
  • The hosts broke a 5-5 tie with three straight, then led 9-6 before a Crusader rally. Five straight points with Keifer Zimmerman serving put The Abbey up two, then the lead stretched to 13-10. After trading points, Morgheim gained the final kill to end the match.
  • Belmont Abbey outhit the Lions .144 to .131 in the contest.


  • Belmont Abbey continues its league road trip at Erskine tomorrow afternoon. A fourth straight win would be the longest success streak of the season.
