Women's Cross Country Picked Second in Conference Carolinas

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Belmont Abbey has been tabbed second in the 2018 Conference Carolinas Women's Cross Country preseason poll, the league office announced today. Voting was conducted by the schools' 11 head coaches. Mount Olive, a participant in the Division II National Championship last year, collected 10 first-place votes and 100 points to lead the poll.

The Crusaders earned 82 points for the coaches after finishing second in last year's Conference Carolinas championship. They return three All-Conference Carolinas runners in Annie Hetzel, Julia Otranto and Hannah Zenker for the 2018 season.

Southern Wesleyan was third with 77 points, while North Greenville was fourth at 70 points. King (62), Limestone (59) and Converse (43) hold slots five through seven while Emmanuel and Barton tied for eighth with 38 points. Lees-McRae and Erskine held the bottom sports with 21 and 15 points, respectively.

Belmont Abbey opens the season on Sept. 1 in Salisbury, N.C. when it competes in Catawba's Chick-Fil-A Invitational.
